Forbidden ordinal patterns in higher dimensional dynamics
Forbidden ordinal patterns are ordinal patterns (or ‘rank blocks’) that cannot appear in the orbits generated by a map taking values on a linearly ordered space, in which case we say that the map has forbidden patterns. Once a map has a forbidden pattern of a given length L0, it has forbidden patterns of any length L ≥ L0 and their number grows superexponentially with L. Using recent results on...
متن کاملMinimal Forbidden Patterns of Multi-Dimensional Shifts
We study whether the entropy (or growth rate) of minimal forbidden patterns of symbolic dynamical shifts of dimension 2 or more, is a conjugacy invariant. We prove that the entropy of minimal forbidden patterns is a conjugacy invariant for uniformly semi-strongly irreducible shifts. We prove a weaker invariant in the general case.
متن کاملOn Higher-dimensional Dynamics
Technical results are presented on motion in N (> 4)D manifolds to clarify the physics of Kaluza-Klein theory, brane theory and string theory. The so-called canonical or warp metric in 5D effectively converts the manifold from a coordinate space to a momentum space, resulting in a new force (per unit mass) parallel to the 4D velocity. The form of this extra force is actually independent of the ...
متن کاملDeleting and Testing Forbidden Patterns in Multi-Dimensional Arrays
Analyzing multi-dimensional data is a fundamental problem in various areas of computer science. As the amount of data is often huge, it is desirable to obtain sublinear time algorithms to understand local properties of the data. We focus on the natural problem of testing pattern freeness: given a large d-dimensional array A and a fixed d-dimensional pattern P over a finite alphabet Γ, we say th...
متن کاملForbidden Patterns
We consider the problem of indexing a collection of documents (a.k.a. strings) of total length n such that the following kind of queries are supported: given two patterns P and P−, list all nmatch documents containing P but not P−. This is a natural extension of the classic problem of document listing as considered by Muthukrishnan [SODA’02], where only the positive pattern P is given. Our main...
